The Boating Safety Course is an introductory course to meet the boating education needs of recreational boaters. General information concerning boats and maintenance, information to make your boating experience safer and more comfortable, tips on how to be a more courteous boat operator, laws and regulations to which you must adhere are included.
The following information applies to all recreational vessels (powerboats, personal watercraft, sailboats, and boats under oars when underway). However, in some places information may apply specifically to one type of boat, equipment, or activity.
We encourage you to continue to learn more about boating safety on your own.
Anyone successfully completing your Boating Safety (AGMEDI-74) course with a final score of 80% or higher and presenting your Certificate of Training will:
- Satisfy the Safe Boating Course requirements of 46 CFR 11.429(a)(2),
- 11.456(b), and 11.467(g)(2); OR • Receive 2 days sea service credit towards any deck credential restricted to service upon vessels of not more than 100 gross tons.

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Hazardous Materials Regulations (AGMEDI-214) course will satisfy the following competency: • “Carriage of dangerous goods,” competency of Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, under the Function: Cargo Handling & Stowage at the Management Level; • AND, will receive six days sea service credit towards any deck credential or endorsement. This sea service credit may not be used to satisfy any recency requirements for service on specific routes.

Course Name: Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques 1-1/2 Days 12 Hours
1-1/2 days (12 hours) of classroom and in-the-water practice with water survival techniques and lifesaving equipment including life rafts and survival suits.
personal survival course module, also known as Basic Sea Survival, which is instructed in compliance to STCW Code A – VI/1-1 and consists of a day in the classroom covering subjects such as emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The theory part is followed by a written exam. The remainder of the course is spent in a swimming pool performing the simulation of abandon ship procedures. The practical exercises are subject to ongoing assessment by the instructor.
Any applicant who successfully completes your Personal Survival Techniques (AGMEDI-363) course will satisfy the Personal Survival Techniques training and competency requirements of STCW Code, as amended 2010, Section A-VI/1 and 46 CFR 11.302(a)(1) and 46 CFR 12.602(a)(1) AND have performed all practical demonstrations as guided by the applicable section within the Basic Training NVIC 08-14.
Applicants are not required to present completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.
